Benefits of Scar Release Therapy (SRT)

Gentle, targeted work that frees stuck tissue and restores comfort & confidence

When scar tissue binds the layers of skin, fascia, and muscle, it can create pulling, pain, and restricted movement. SRT gently releases those adhesions so your body can move—and feel—better again.
  • Softens and flattens the visible appearance of scars
  • Reduces pain, tightness, itching, and numbness around the scar
  • Frees adhesions to restore glide between skin, fascia, and muscle
  • Improves flexibility, posture, and overall range of motion
  • Decreases stiffness in the affected area to support daily activities and exercise
  • Boosts healthy circulation and lymph flow to speed tissue repair
  • Helps normalize nerve signaling and sensation for better comfort
  • Complements post-surgical rehabilitation and supports a smoother recovery

Whether your scar is from a C-section, orthopedic surgery, or an old injury, SRT can help you move more freely and feel like yourself again.

How Scar Release Therapy (SRT) Works

What to expect during your visit

Scar Release Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive approach that frees adhesions, restores tissue glide, and reduces discomfort.

Here’s how a typical session flows:

Deep Tissue Massage (250 × 250 px)

Consultation & Assessment

We begin with a brief conversation and assessment of your scar(s), health history, and goals.

Your therapist will observe and palpate the tissue, note sensitivity and range of motion, and outline a personalized plan.

(Photos or simple movement checks may be used to track progress.)

Prepare the Tissue

Next, we warm and soften the area with light massage and a soothing, conductive balm or oil.

This helps calm the nervous system and prepares the skin, fascia, and underlying muscle for effective release without stressing the tissue.

Targeted Scar Release

Using precise, gentle techniques, your therapist frees adhesions and encourages healthy tissue remodeling. You may feel light pressure or a mild pulling sensation as the layers begin to glide more easily. Most clients notice less tightness and improved mobility by the end of this step.

Aftercare & Home Support

We re-check comfort and movement, apply a calming lotion, and provide simple at-home tips—hydration, scar-care massage, and easy mobility exercises—to extend your results. Your therapist will also discuss an ideal plan; many scars respond best within a short series of visits.

Most people feel easier movement after the first session, with cumulative improvements across 3–6 treatments, depending on the age and size of the scar.

What to Expect During Your Scar Release Therapy Session

Before we begin: we’ll do a brief intake, look at the scar’s location and mobility, and set comfort levels for pressure. You’ll be positioned comfortably and draped for privacy.

During your session

  • Your therapist uses gentle, targeted pressure and specialized soft-tissue techniques to soften adhesions and restore tissue glide.

  • A neutral, skin-friendly lotion or oil may be applied to reduce friction; in some cases we may incorporate microcurrent tools for added support.

  • Sensations vary from light pressure to a dull, “good” ache or mild tenderness. You are in control—we work within your comfort throughout.

  • Most sessions run 45–60 minutes; smaller areas may take less time.

After your session

  • Many clients notice the area feels softer, lighter, and moves more easily right away.

  • Mild redness or tenderness can occur for 24–48 hours—this is normal. Hydrate well, and avoid intense workouts, hot tubs, or aggressive scrubbing on the area that day.

  • We’ll provide simple home care to help maintain results.

How many sessions will I need?
Every scar is different. Fresh or smaller scars may respond in 1–3 visits; older, larger, or surgical scars typically benefit from a series of 3–6 sessions, spaced 1–2 weeks apart.

What the Research Says About Scar Release Therapy (SRT)

Growing evidence suggests that manual therapy applied to scar tissue can support functional and cosmetic improvements. While individual results vary and SRT isn’t a substitute for medical care, studies and reviews report benefits such as:

  • Improved scar pliability and appearance (reduced height, stiffness, and irregular texture).

  • Better range of motion and functional mobility in areas restricted by scar adhesions.

  • Reduced pain, sensitivity, and swelling associated with post-surgical and post-burn scars.

  • Enhanced local circulation which can support tissue healing.

  • Psychological benefits in select groups (e.g., burn and breast-cancer survivors), including reduced anxiety/depression and improved body image and quality of life.

These findings support using Scar Release Therapy as a conservative, non-invasive option to help people move more comfortably and feel more at ease in their bodies.
