Frequently Asked Questions

Most asked Corporate & In Home Massage Service Questions

How do I choose a practitioner?

There are many massage therapists to choose from and it can be difficult to know where to turn. Here are some tips for finding the best therapist for you.

    1. Verify their license (see 2)
    2. Search for a licensed massage therapist that is part of a professional massage therapy association.
      1. Florida State Massage Therapy Association www.fsmta.org
      2. American Massage Therapy Association www.amtamassage.org
How can I verify that a Massage Therapist &/Or Massage Establishment is legitimate?
  1. Massage Therapy in Florida falls under the Florida Department of Health. It is responsible for the regulation of Healthcare Practitioners for the preservation of the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
  2. “The Florida Board of Massage Therapy is responsible for the licensure, monitoring, and education of Massage Therapy professionals to assure competency and safety in their service to the people of Florida.” (floridamassagetherapy.gov)
  3. To verify that a massage therapist &/or Massage Establishment is licensed and compliant go to: https://mqa-internet.doh.state.fl.us
    1. You can search by Massage Establishment or Massage Therapist
How do I prepare my home for an in-home massage?
  1. Your therapist will need a space of approx. 6 feet by 9 feet. This allows enough room to set up the massage table, as well as, to navigate easily around the table.
  2. Your therapist will bring everything needed for the massage (such as Sheets, music, diffuser, lotions, etc.) Should you prefer to play your own music, light candles, or use your own sheets, you are free to do so; simply let your therapist know ahead of time.
What do I need to know and what can I expect for my first massage session?

Your therapist will arrive approx. 10 – 15 minutes early to allow time for set up and intake.

During the intake process, your therapist will either have a health intake form for you to complete &/or will verbally ask you to answer questions about your health history, medications you are taking, areas of concern, and your session goals. It is essential to be open about sharing this information for your safety and to get the best possible results.

Do I need to undress completely?

No, your comfort is key. While some people choose to undress completely, if you are more comfortable leaving your underwear on, that is fine. No matter what your comfort level of undress, you will be covered by a top sheet. With your consent, the therapist will only uncover the specific area they are working on at the time.

How long will my session last?
  1. All sessions start once you are on the table, and everything is ready to go.
  2. You can choose from a 60-, 90-, or 120-minute session.
  3. Should you want to extend your session, simply ask your therapist. If their schedule allows, you can add additional time.
Does massage hurt?
  1. Massage in general feels good. Certain areas of tension or chronic pain may be uncomfortable. It is important to let your therapist know if you are experiencing any discomfort so they can adjust the pressure level and/or techniques accordingly.
  2. If you find yourself holding your breath, that is an indication that the pressure is too much. Speak up and ask your therapist to adjust.
How will I feel after my massage?
  1. Most people experience feeling very relaxed after their session. You may notice that your pain has decreased, that you feel looser, and are moving more freely.
  2. Occasionally, people may experience feeling achy or sore after a massage or even the next day. During a massage, the soft tissue is manipulated to breakdown knots, adhesions, and relieve muscle tension. In the areas being stimulated, this can cause muscle soreness. Similar to when you work-out and use different muscle groups that you infrequently focus on. As your muscles recover you may notice an ease and comfort to your movement.
What if I am ticklish?

It is important to share this information with your therapist before the start of your session. They can use different pressure levels and techniques that can help. You may also request them to simply skip that area.

Can I talk during the massage?

While most people like to simply relax during the massage, others enjoy having a conversation during their session. It is your time, and you can spend it, however, is most comfortable for you. We do request that you definitely speak up if there is anything we can do or adjust (music, temperature, pressure, etc.) to make your session the best it can be!

How frequently should I get a massage?

This can vary from person to person and is dependent on your goals and current health. As a rule of thumb, consider getting a massage 1-2x per month. Consult your massage therapist to create the best plan for you.

How much should I tip my massage therapist?

While a tip is not required, if you are pleased with your service and want to show appreciation for your therapist, the standard tipping rate for a massage is 20%.

“Kathryn is the best massage therapist ever! She shows up on time and always has a smile on her face. She does a great job and always knows where the pain is and how to make me feel amazing! Best of all, she comes to me! I highly recommend her!
